CLIMATE CHANGE AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The complex climate models used to inform policy decisions, and once the domain of academics only, are becoming increasingly useful to investors, speculators and risk managers. The financial risks associated with a changing climate need to be better understood and managed.

The objective of long-term economic growth within a changing climate will require new types of financial instruments, risk transfer products and “climate proof” investment opportunities.

A SHORT COURSE ON CLIMATE RISK FOR COMPANY DIRECTORS

Climate Policy Research has developed a  short course on climate risks for  company directors.  The course has been designed to provide Australian company directors with the initial overview of the  key aspects of how financial risks arise from a changing climate.

Topics covered include:

  • The emerging legal view of Directors responsibilities and obligations,
  • How the emergence of ever more useful data on future climate is driving an increased understanding of the risks,
  • Suggested approaches on the financial analysis of climate risks.

The short courses were run as a demonstration event for invited stakeholders in both Sydney and Melbourne in late 2015.
